March of dimes volunteering
For this event, volunteers went to Rockaway Mall to help support March of Dimes. They were stationed in front of Macy's near the makeup and perfume department and were assigned to talk to people about Macy's Shop for a Cause Sales Event weekend. Basically, if people donated $5 to the March of Dimes organization at one of the Macy's registers, they would be eligible to obtain a 25% sales discount to use during that weekend as a reward for donating.
The volunteers took different shifts. From 10:00AM-12:00PM, Lauren and Kristine took charge of the table. They played music, blew bubbles, and attracted people the best they can. Once 12:00PM came around, they passed the job onto Ellen and Karoline. They admitted that attracting people was difficult. Some avoided them by going around the pole in front of them. Others avoided eye contact. At around 1:00PM, Juliana came to join the two in their efforts. She soon discovered that it was a tough job because some people were uninterested in their cause. However, they were some who were very polite and kind enough to lend an ear to their cause and to donate for the March of Dimes. Around 2:00PM, Karoline and Ellen passed the role onto Franny, Prerana, and Yash. The three did the best they could to attract people by blowing bubbles and wandering around the table to talk to people. They also struggled a bit. In the end, the volunteers performed the best they could. Their efforts weren't futile, since they managed to convince some people to donate for the March of Dimes. You know they say, "A little bit goes a long way."
